Brigham Young University
Not only is Brigham Young University (BYU) ranked as having the best undergraduate accounting program in the state of Utah, but it is also ranked as the third best in the United States, according to the Public Accounting Report. This isn’t a new development, either, as BYU has ranked third on the same report for the past 18 years. According to Accounting.com, in 2014, BYU had 311 candidates take the CPA test with a 77.9% pass rate, and an average score of 81.9.
Utah State University
Although a bit smaller, Utah State University boasts a relatively high pass rate for the CPA test. The Logan-based small-town college had 99 candidates take the test in 2014, 67.5% of whom passed with an average score of 78.2. On top of that, the Public Accounting Report, in their annual review, ranked Utah State University as the 46th best undergraduate accounting program in the United States. This puts the school in the top 6% of accounting programs in the nation.
University of Utah
The University of Utah, rated as the top all-around university in Utah, also has the third highest CPA pass-rate in the state. According to Accounting.com, the University of Utah had 236 candidates take the CPA test in 2014, and sported a pass rate of 65.1% and an average score of 76.6. Although they are ranked behind Utah State University in terms of pass rating, the U of U was ranked as the 27th best undergraduate accounting program in the country, according to the Public Accounting Report, which puts it a full 19 spots above USU.
Utah Valley University
Although the last school on this list didn’t rank on the official review of the Public Accounting Report, it is still a top notch accounting school in one of the best states in the country for undergraduate accounting programs. Utah Valley University is ranked as the fourth best accounting school in the country, with a pass rate of 57.5% and an average score of 74.1 for the 38 candidates that took the CPA test.
